As a graduate, promotion seems quite achievable with a few years of consistent good work and gradual increases in responsibility. Past a certain point, further promotions usually entail a lot of management/supervision, however there are still quite a number of promotion levels associated to purely technical responsibilities.

Dolby is relatively flat in structure so it can take longer to get promoted once reaching mid-level.

I think there's a slight expectation that you need to work quite long hours and be responsible for large portions of work to be promoted. The time between promotions and career progression seems to be longer than the industry standard. The field of DSP is also quite specialised which can be concerning for future career progression.
