It’s fulfilling to resolve conflicts in certain projects that I handle and to see how much I improve my skills from the very first day that I joined Emerson.

What's your job about?

As a Cadet Engineer in Product Environmental Compliance, I ensure reliable and up-to-date compliance data in the compliance system. Since I was involved in Product Environmental Compliance (PEC), we examine the accuracy of material declarations to ensure compliance requirements. Moreover, the responsibility of the Cadet Engineer is to gather and extract data from compliance systems of different materials. It is part of my job to validate all the compliance data of the material that we receive from the supplier to ensure its accuracy and consistency.

One of the crucial skills that I should possess as a Cadet Engineer is communication skills because part of my job is to collaborate with the suppliers in preparing and finalizing documents, completing material declaration requirements, and ensuring that supplier contact information is accurate.

In summary, a Cadet Engineer has numerous key responsibilities to acquire. I verify supplier and material information pertaining to various international environmental rules and directives that apply to Emerson products.

What's your background?

I grew up in the hometown of national Filipino leaders, Cavite. I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering at Mapua University. As the eldest daughter of three, I have countless responsibilities to undertake growing up. Both of my parents are working, and I have massive roles that I need to fulfill as a role model to my sisters.

Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed doing numbers, specifically Math, and I always dreamed of being an Engineer. My father inspired me to choose my preferred course in college since he also graduated in engineering. During my time in college, I have gained various leadership experiences from different organizations. I experienced handling events, executing quiz bees, and leading the organization. Since Mapua University is on a “Quarterm” basis, we have 4 semesters in a year and 11 weeks per term, which challenged me to balance my time between my organization, sidelines, and academics. At first, it was difficult to manage my time since my university is fast-paced, but the challenges I faced in college paved the way for my personal growth and opportunities.

Moreover, I became an intern at Emerson in December 2022 as a Component Engineer in Commercial and Residential Solutions. My experience at Emerson as an intern is an eye-opening opportunity for me as an Engineering student since my internship experience at Emerson solidified my passion. I had the privilege to work alongside talented professionals in the field who mentored me, providing me with a wealth of knowledge and experience, which made me pursue Emerson as my first job.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Absolutely, yes. Skills in various fields can come from different backgrounds, but dedication and willingness are crucial for every individual. As a graduate of Electronics Engineering and a previous intern at Emerson, it became an advantage since I have knowledge of how various electronic components work and how to handle REACH and ROHS compliance. But anyone has the potential to do it. If you are dedicated and willing to learn, and this is your field of interest, you can do it.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

Probably one of the coolest things about my job is that I’m able to learn, improve, and adapt to different challenges that require critical thinking and decision-making. Although sometimes I tend to be overwhelmed by the workload, I enjoy handling various projects that make me feel like I’m an Engineer. It’s fulfilling to resolve conflicts in certain projects that I handle and to see how much I improve my skills from the very first day that I joined Emerson.

What are the limitations of your job?

My job as a Cadet Engineer comprises a lot of decision-making, but probably the primary limitation of my job is that I often require supervision from my manager and supervisor. Since engineering is a field that is constantly evolving with new methodologies, innovations, and technologies, it’s worth noting. Since I’m still in the early stages of my career, I may not have a substantial amount of hands-on experience. However, the guidance and support from my seniors, manager, and supervisor will aid me in improving and creating an impact on the team.
