Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for an Electronics and Communication Apprentice to join a small team responsible for providing maintenance support to capabilities used by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

Working under the direction of the Senior Maintenance Manager and reporting to the Support Services Manager, the successful applicant will provide support to the end users through maintaining their in-service equipment and providing technical support assistance.

The role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to grow and develop their technical skills through a combination of on-the-job training and experience, and further study.

It is expected the successful applicant meets the entry requirements to enrol in a Certificate III in Electronics and Communications (national code: UEE30920) as part of an apprenticeship program.

Occasional local and interstate travel may be required to perform maintenance and support technical investigations at end user locations.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess an Australian citizenship and either hold or be willing to progress a Defence clearance. In applying for this position, candidates are requested to address the following criteria:

  • The successful applicant will have completed or currently be studying their Higher School Certificate or equivalent
  • Eligible to enrol in a Certificate III in Electronics and Communication (national code: UEE30920) at the commencement of their employment.
  • Ability to interpret technical data/documentation
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and technical writing skills.
  • A commitment to work health and safety

Desirable, but not essential – previous practical experience in one or more of the following:

  • IT skills - managing software installation and auditing, as well as ability to manage firmware upgrades
  • Telecommunications skills - understanding of LANs, radio networks
  • working on electrical / mechanical systems and use of hand tools
