I am part of the external audit team so on the day to day basis I talk to clients and conduct audit procedures by reviewing documents and financial reports.

Assigned to certain accounts (FSLIs) from different engagements. Day-to-day responsibilities include inquiries, requesting client documents and records, vouching, documentation, noting and addressing differences, etc.

Especially during the busy season when we handle several clients simultaneously, sometimes, I think I can perform better.

Pros and cons of working at Isla Lipana & Co.

Pros

  • They are people-centered and is concern about their employees' career growth.

  • There's a consistent effort in creating a fostering, sustainable culture. I feel heard. I especially appreciate how individual career goals are taken into account and met with the appropriate opportunities.

  • I appreciate the flexible working arrangement (mix of work-from-home and report-to-office) with less to no hassle in requesting for WFH. I also appreciate the flexibility in terms of office attire. Lastly, the working environment is very manageable and people are easy to get along with because of the work culture.

  • The people I'm working with - the seniors and the managers are approachable especially when I have questions regarding our engagement. I also felt free and welcome to raise concerns and and ask for help. I was exposed to various industries and the learning and growth are truly exponential. I also admire the extensive resources PwC Isla Lipana & Co. has in terms of accounting and audit standards which are really useful in working our engagements. I also love the hybrid setup we follow in this firm.

  • It has a healthy environment as the people are very inclusive.

Cons

    • The busy seasons gets challenging at times

    • If one wants to make a sustainable living, one has to spend a bit more time advancing in the industry. The growth and experience is worth it, but not all have the privilege to make the investment of time, nor do all view it as commensurate to their efforts. In simpler words, my job may not be as financially rewarding as other entry-level positions, but I am motivated by the rewards in the long haul.

    • I would say it's the workload. As an auditor, we handle multiple engagements at the same time and it can be very overwhelming at times.

    • The toxic and numerous workloads during busy seasons.

    • Although the learning and growth are undeniable, compensation is really low. During busy season, we stayed almost 12-15 hours at the office and overtime charges really depend on the budget for each engagement. The allowances and monetary benefits are also not that great.
