Pros & Cons

  • They are people-centered and is concern about their employees' career growth.
  • There's a consistent effort in creating a fostering, sustainable culture. I feel heard. I especially appreciate how individual career goals are taken into account and met with the appropriate opportunities.
  • I appreciate the flexible working arrangement (mix of work-from-home and report-to-office) with less to no hassle in requesting for WFH. I also appreciate the flexibility in terms of office attire. Lastly, the working environment is very manageable and people are easy to get along with because of the work culture.
  • The people I'm working with - the seniors and the managers are approachable especially when I have questions regarding our engagement. I also felt free and welcome to raise concerns and and ask for help. I was exposed to various industries and the learning and growth are truly exponential. I also admire the extensive resources PwC Isla Lipana & Co. has in terms of accounting and audit standards which are really useful in working our engagements. I also love the hybrid setup we follow in this firm.
  • It has a healthy environment as the people are very inclusive.
  • The busy seasons gets challenging at times
  • If one wants to make a sustainable living, one has to spend a bit more time advancing in the industry. The growth and experience is worth it, but not all have the privilege to make the investment of time, nor do all view it as commensurate to their efforts. In simpler words, my job may not be as financially rewarding as other entry-level positions, but I am motivated by the rewards in the long haul.
  • I would say it's the workload. As an auditor, we handle multiple engagements at the same time and it can be very overwhelming at times.
  • The toxic and numerous workloads during busy seasons.
  • Although the learning and growth are undeniable, compensation is really low. During busy season, we stayed almost 12-15 hours at the office and overtime charges really depend on the budget for each engagement. The allowances and monetary benefits are also not that great.

At the firm, we take charge of our career development. If we express a desire to advance and show that we have the capability for it with our performance, we are given both the opportunity and responsibility to grow. In general, it may take at least two busy seasons to advance in rank, but the second year can be tailored to be a training period to ready us for the responsibility that comes with moving up the corporate ladder.

PwC has always been an advocate for CSR. During summer outings, each department always incorporate CSR into its activities, such as but not limited to: supporting education through donation of building hub, educational supplies, and furniture. Environmental projects include tree planting activities, coastal cleanup, beach drive and others. During typhoon and natural calamities, the firm also cooperates and partners with notable foundations to aid the victims.

The hierarchy is flat. Our workplace is structured as an open space office which reflects the ease with which we can converse with our managers and partner. It's easy to raise concerns and ask questions. In terms of socials, we are a small office, so it's easy to know all our workmates, and we make an effort during the year to connect with each other through a number of social events organized by our local People Committee.

As an Assurance Associate, I do most of the legwork in audit engagements. I directly interact with client contacts and perform the tests which will impact the audit opinion. As part of a team, I am assigned FSLIs according to my capabilities and growth potential. I make sure to accomplish my deliverables.

The interview process was straightforward but not impersonal. Human Capital (what we call our human resource team) made a point of getting to know our goals, provided us with more context behind the lines of service, and recommended paths.

The basic pay leaves a lot to be desired, but the firm is generous with their performance-based profit-sharing bonus, putting total pay still at par with or even better than others in the same industry and location.

The company is pretty flexible with the hours we work in the office however because of the heavy workload sometimes we render more than 8 hours in a workday to accomplish our tasks.
